A Rohingya man allegedly committed suicide after poisoning his three minor children, one of whom later died, in Jalia Para area of Shahpari Island under Teknaf upazila of Cox’s Bazar on Sunday morning.

The deceased were identified as Md Anwar and his minor daughter Somaiya, 7.

Abdus Salam, member of Ward No. 9 of Sabrang Union said, “I came to know through neighbors that Anwar and his wife Rehena locked in a quarrel on Saturday afternoon. Later, Rehna went to her father’s house leaving her three children with her husband.”

Locals found all of them lying in the house without any response in this morning and informed the police, he said.

Later, the police rushed there and broke open the door of the house and found Anwar and his infant daughter Somaiya dead while two other children Mahiya, 4 and Jabed, 2, sick.

Mizanur Rahman, sub-inspector of (SI) of Shahpari Island police outpost, said the bodies of the two victims were recovered and sent to Cox’s Bazar Sadar Hospital morgue for autopsies.
